Sustainability as a promising market opportunity

Due to the increasing consumers demand for environmental responsibility, sustainability did become a main issue for the operating imperatives of many companies. For example, the Dutch-British transnational consumer goods company Unilever recently released the results of an international study involving 20,000 shoppers in five countries. The results showed that one-third of consumers choose to purchase from social and environmental aware brands.

21% of the respondents pointed out, that they would actively choose brands if they made their sustainability credentials clearer on their packaging and in their marketing. According to the survey, this represents a potential untapped market opportunity of EUR 966 billion out of a EUR 2.5 trillion total market for sustainable goods, according to the survey.
