GERMANY  Two sites, 60 employees and working relationships with customers and partners lasting several decades: One of the leading companies for the manufacture of printing plates for labels and packaging is already in its fourth generation. Carl Ostermann Erben GmbH (COE) celebrated its 125th anniversary at the start of September at the Bremen site.

At the end of the 19th century, the stereotyper, Carl Ostermann Senior, came up with the idea of replacing the counter plates previously made in the usual way at the workplace with pre-fabricated counter plates. He founded his business in Bremen on 2 September 1891. “Ostermann” counter plates soon enjoyed an outstanding reputation even outside Imperial Germany.

It is rare for a company not only to have a successful place in the market after 125 years, but to be well equipped for looking forward to the future. Since its foundation in 1891, COE has developed into a printing plate manufacturer operating throughout Europe. At the two sites in Bremen and Stuttgart, COE produces plates, sleeves and screens. The customers include quality-conscious label printing shops, packaging printers and producers of branded articles beyond the national borders.
